KORONADAL – A 13 year old high school student from Sultan Kudarat province bags 1st place in the just concluded 2014 Pantawid Pamilya National Exemplary Child in Metro Manila.
Fulgar Dauban, 13, a resident of New Carmen, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat Province, received the award during the culmination of National Children’s Congress on Saturday at Sequoia Hotel in Quezon City. The activity is in observance of the annual Children’s Month Celebration, with this year’s theme, “Bata Kasali Ka, Ikaw ay Mahalaga” which focuses on the participation of children in nation-building.
At the same time Dauban received a plaque and Php 20,000. 00 pesos price.
“We congratulate the boy for a job well done. This is a manifestation that our program is working and giving hope for fortunate children,” DSWD regional director Bai Zorahayda T. Taha said.
Dauban, who hails from the city of Tacurong, belongs to class of top students, a special program for fast learners at New Isabela Central School.
He excels in Mathematics and English subjects. From 2008-2013, he is first honour in their class. He is best in Math and Filipino.
The Mathematic Teachers Association of the Philippines, Incorporated and the Department of Education, gave him certificate for his excellence.
Dauban said he wanted to become a Certified Public Accountant someday.
“I thank the government for including us in the program. This is a big help in my studies,” he said.
In her statement, DSWD secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman said that the activity is timely in reiterating the message that children are the future of the nation.
“Majority of our programs are focused on promoting children’s rights and welfare. Apart from the centres and institutions that we maintain, we are the lead in the implementation of Pantawid Pamilya, the government’s flagship poverty reduction program,” she cited.(End)
