Six hundred poor families mostly farmers from Brgys. Sadsalan and Sigayan of Lambayong, province of Sultan Kudarat receive food packs recently from DSWD 12 after weeks of extreme losses due to drought.
Said barangays were among the areas affected by too much heat and lack of rain and irrigation system wherein 600 out of 1,204 affected families received said augmentation support.
Zorahayda Taha, head of DSWD 12 mentioned that the dry season put some of our communities at risk especially children. She added, “our food packs consist of 3 kilos rice, 3 cans of sardines, 3 cans of corned beef and 6 sachet of Energen.”
DSWD 12 spent more or less P200, 000 to cover food assistance to said barangays.
Mr. Sambutuan Magango, barangay chieftain of Sadsalan said, “we are thankful that social services such as relief assistance like these reached our community.”
He said, “many of our farmers here who invested in planting corn, rice and monggo were not able to get the minimum amount of harvest for them to survive.”
Several parts of Region 12 experienced drought since early February this year.
