Parang, Maguindanao Del Norte – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XII in partnership with World Food program distributed EBT cards to beneficiaries alongside the commencement of food redemption activities at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Gym (Cathedral) on February 27, 2024.
Each beneficiary received their EBT card loaded with a value of 3,000 pesos worth of groceries after validation and registration. This allocation was strategically divided to promote dietary diversification, with 1,500 pesos designated for “go food,” 900 pesos for “grow food,” and 600 pesos for “glow food.” This approach aligned with the program’s objective of not only addressing hunger but also promoting healthier and more diverse dietary habits among beneficiaries.
Jackiya A. Lao, the Chief of Promotive Services Division of DSWD, attended the distribution on behalf of Regional Director Cabaya. Lao emphasized that DSWD XII is committed to implementing the Food Stamp Program even in far-flung areas to promote dietary diversity among beneficiaries. Also present during the distribution were Sohra P. Guialel, OIC -Policy and Plans Division of DSWD 12, Barbara Guielel, MSWDO of Parang, Cahar P. Ibay, the Municipal Mayor of Parang, Maguindanao Del Norte, and Lyca Therese M. Sarenas, head of the World Food Program in Cotabato.
After the distribution, the beneficiaries redeemed their groceries from identified partner local retailer. This activity allowed beneficiaries to choose food items according to their preferences and dietary needs, ensuring that the assistance provided by the program is tailored to their individual requirements.
The distribution of EBT cards and food redemption activities signified the program’s commitment to providing prompt and consistent monetary-based assistance to registered households. By utilizing the EBT cards during market or redemption days monthly, beneficiaries could access food items based on the Food Stamp Menu, thereby alleviating their food insecurity and improving their overall well-being.
