Arakan, Cotabato Province – The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), operating under the portfolio of PAMANA (Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan), continues to make significant strides in empowering local communities in Barangays Ganatan and Libertad, Arakan, Cotabato Province.

In a series of milestone events held on February 15, 2024, two Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) officially commenced their 3rd tranche livelihood initiatives.

The Ganatan SLP Association celebrated the continuation of their impactful endeavor. Comprising 27 dedicated members, the association transitioned from its initial focus on piggery during the 1st tranche to establishing an agricultural supply store for its 2nd and 3rd tranches. The shift in focus was necessitated by the closure of their piggery due to the African swine fever, which affected all their livestock.

Similarly, the Libertad Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, situated in Barangay Libertad, celebrated its own journey towards economic empowerment. With 30 enthusiastic members, the association embarked on its 3rd tranche initiative, expanding to Agri-vet supply after successful ventures in general merchandise during the 1st and 2nd tranches.

These events underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting grassroots development and uplifting marginalized communities. The DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program, under the auspices of PAMANA, serves as a beacon of hope for residents in Barangays Ganatan and Libertad, providing them with the tools and resources needed to build a brighter future. Each association received P300,000.00 per tranche to support their initiatives, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth at the grassroots level.
