The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) field office 12 through the National Household Targeting Unit (NHTU) is set to hire a number of field workers soon in line with the upcoming Listahanan 2nd round nationwide household assessment this year.

DSWD 12 will still be covering regions 12 and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)- Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao (LaMa) provinces for the second assessment.

Accordingly, the department will hire field workers which include area coordinators, area supervisors, enumerators, encoders and verifiers to collect information from 775,335 households in 45 municipalities and 5 cities in region 12 and 529,246 households in 75 municipalities and one city for ARMM-LaMa.

The area coordinators will supervise and train area supervisors who are tasked to lead a team of enumerators.
The enumerators will conduct family interviews using the Family Assessment Form (FAF).

The FAF is a four-page questionnaire with 52 variables that are pertinent in determining a household’s welfare level. Encoders will input the data collected by the enumerators to the Listahanan database, while verifiers will check if the data entered are consistent and accurate.

Meanwhile, DSWD field office 12 Regional Director Bai Zorahayda T. Taha has confirmed that the assessment will begin within summer of 2015 but stressed that the exact date for the household visit is yet to be announced.
“DSWD 12 will keep the public posted on the details as regards the upcoming assessment but for now we are just announcing that the second assessment will be pushed through this year”, Taha noted.

Moreover, the Department is set to conduct Local Government Unit (LGU) consultation meeting for Regions 12 and ARMM-LaMa wherein matters concerning the assessment will be discussed thoroughly.

“We are keeping a close coordination with the LGU’s to make sure that they get involved during the entire assessment period especially in terms of looking after the field workers in their area of assignment”, Taha explained.

Listahanan, also known the National Household Targeting System or Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), is an information management system that identifies who and where the poor are.

Through the Listahan 2nd nationwide household assessment, a new batch of poor and near-poor families will be identified and prioritized for appropriate programs and services. It will also enable the Department to track changes or developments in the lives of poor households who were identified in the previous assessment.

In 2009, the DSWD conducted the first nationwide assessment that resulted in the identification of 296,043 poor households out of the 581,853 assessed in Region 12 and 337,324 poor households out of 522,795 assessed in ARMM-LaMa. –End-
