In the aftermath of the November 2023 earthquake in Sarangani Province, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XII immediately implemented an emergency cash transfer initiative to aid the affected families.
Collaborative efforts involved key figures such as DSWD XII Director Loreto Jr. V. Cabaya, Governor Rogelio Pacquiao, and the mayors of Alabel, Malapatan, and Glan.
Expressing gratitude, Dir. Cabaya acknowledged the crucial role of Secretary Rex Gatchalian, stating, ”Our very own Secretary sped up the provision of cash assistance, reflecting DSWD’s commitment to provide it promptly and compassionately.” Ms. Julieta Minggo, an ECT recipient residing in Purok 5, Poblacion, 63, shared her appreciation, stating, ”Nagpapasalamat kami sa DSWD XII sa agarang tulong dahil maipapaayos na namin ang aming nasirang tahanan. Maraming salamat po.”
In the municipality of Alabel, there were a total of 187 affected families. Of these, 25 households faced total destruction in their homes, while 162 experienced partial damage. In Malapatan, 135 beneficiaries suffered a severe damaged of their homes, and 3,198 were victims of partially damaged houses.
In Glan, 299 beneficiaries experienced the devastating impact of totally damaged houses, and 1,725 faced partially damaged homes. The emergency cash transfer for beneficiaries with totally damaged houses in three (3) municipalities received P27,180, while P13,590 is allocated for partially damaged residences.
In total, 5464 were recipient of ECT in the said province. Governor Rogelio Pacquiao praised the collaborative efforts of DSWD and all stakeholders in addressing the pressing needs of the disaster-affected communities. (Jerry Dumdum)
