Isulan and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat — The Department of Social Welfare and Development 12 recently rolled out significant livelihood assistance here as part of its ongoing efforts to uplift the socio-economic status of poor and marginalized communities. The DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) provided a total of Php4.5 million to support residents of the municipalities of Isulan and Lebak.

The allocation, sourced through a Congressional Initiative, was aimed at empowering 300 program participants from both municipalities by providing them with the capital needed to start or expand various micro-enterprises.

The assistance supported a diverse range of small businesses, including cattle farming, sari-sari stores, rice wholesaling, fish vending, and food processing, among others. Each participant received up to Php15,000 to invest in their chosen venture, whether it was acquiring raw materials, small tools, or essential machinery.

In Isulan, 150 participants benefited from this initiative. The releasing event was attended by key local government officials, headed by Acting Mayor Atty. Arnold Armada, and Florentino Y. Loyola Jr., Assistant Secretary for Specialized Programs under the Operations Group of DSWD Central Office.

In Lebak, another 150 participants were supported, with the event graced by Hon. Frederick Celestial, the Municipal Mayor, and Pelma Corazon D. Pelobillo, MSWDO.

Senators Allan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano, who were pivotal in funding the initiative, were represented by Samantha Suarez and Anjo Damiles, respectively. Their support underscored the importance of congressional collaboration in enhancing community livelihoods.

Other notable attendees included Noraidah Busran, Grievance and Referral Section Head at the National Program Management Office – SLP, Edgar R. Guerra, Regional Program Coordinator at the Regional Program Management Office – SLP, and Evelyn Pinongcos, Regional Executive Assistant of DSWD 12. Their presence highlighted the SLP’s commitment to addressing community needs and facilitating sustainable economic development.

The SLP has continued to be a cornerstone of the DSWD’s mission to build resilience among the nation’s poorest households. By providing vital resources and training, the program helped individuals and communities to acquire the assets needed to engage in and sustain profitable livelihoods.
