Neglected, abandoned children receive multi-cab vehicle from PhilHealth Fun Run 2013 multi cabTANTANGAN, SOUTH COTABATO – The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XII recently received a total of P850, 000 worth of goods and gifts from PhilHealth after a successful conduct of its nationwide Fun Run participated by almost 6, 000 runners regionwide.

Zorahayda Taha, DSWD 12 regional director expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of PhilHealth to make DSWD’s Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) a recipient of the run.

She said, “abandoned and neglected children in this center deserve special care from the community and we are glad that PhilHealth donated some of their proceeds to these children who deserve all love and attention given their situation.”

PhilHealth officer Merlie Sabog announced during a turn over ceremony that the goods include furnitures, appliances, toys and outdoor play equipment as well as a Multi-cab vehicle.

 

Camelia Taha, chief of RSCC said, “at first, we laid down our wishlist only coupled with a prayer and now it’s a dream come true.”

She added, “words are not enough to thank PhilHealth, we can only improve our work and do our best as caretakers of these children.”

RSCC provides social work interventions to children 0-6 years old for protection, and rehabilitation services through temporary residential care to neglected, dependent and abandoned, abused and exploited children and to those with special needs such as children at risk and children who are in need of alternative family care.

At present, there are 18 children in the Center and out of this number, 14 are male and 4 are female. There are 8 children in the Toddlers Room ages 15, 13, 12 , 10, 9, 8, 7, 4, ( They are all boys). Seven (7) are in the Nursery ward ages 5 years old (1), 2 years old (2), 1 year old (3), and a 9-month old (1).

RSCC recently transferred to the new building at Brgy. Maibu, Tantangan. The 2,000 square meters lot is donated by the Barangay Officials of Maibu. DSWD transferred P5M to the LGU of tantangan for theirimplementation and building construction with 399 sq. m. floor plan) .
