More than 3,000 Filipino elders in the town of President Roxas in North Cotabato province  started receiving on Thursday, May 14, 2020, their social pension to support their needs amid the country’s coronavirus pandemic. 

The Department has transferred to LGUs funds for 2019 (first and second semester) and for 2020 (first semester) for UNPAID social pensioners. For 2019 unpaid social pensioner, each will receive the full amount of P6k plus their 2020 first semester grant of  

P3k. For 2019 paid social pensioners, each will only receive financial grant of P3k for the first semester of 2020. 

The DSWD handles the implementation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 where indigent senior citizens could receive a monthly stipend worth P500 from the state.

Under RA 9994, it defines indigent senior citizens as “any elderly who is frail, sickly or with disability, and without pension or permanent source of income, compensation or financial assistance from his/her relatives to support his/her basic needs, as determined by the DSWD.” ( JBM / DSWD Photos)
