General Santos City- Today marked a significant moment of relief and support for the residents of General Santos as the Lagao Gymnasium hosted a crucial initiative aimed at aiding farmers, fisherfolk, and families in need. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian spearheaded the distribution of crucial financial aid to 10,000 farmers, fisherfolks, and other affected sectors.

Each recipient received a financial aid amounting to P10,000 as part of the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program, aimed at mitigating the impact of the El Niño Phenomenon on affected families and workers.

In his address, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emphasized the government’s commitment not only to express gratitude but also to pave the way for a prosperous and bright future. “We are here not just to give thanks but to declare a bountiful and promising tomorrow. We stand united to provide assistance to our farmers and fisherfolks during this period of drought,” stated President Marcos Jr.

The event was graced by the presence of key government officials, including DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Undersecretary Pinky Romualdez, Assistant Secretary Florentino Loyola Jr., and dedicated staff from DSWD Field Office XII. Also in attendance were representatives from various government agencies and local councils from General Santos City, South Cotabato, and Sarangani Province, highlighting the collaborative effort to address the needs of the community.

The outpouring of gratitude from the residents underscored the significance of government support during challenging times. “We are truly grateful that the government has not forgotten us during times like these,” expressed one beneficiaries, echoing the sentiments of many.
